– Our Petroleum Testing Instruments Successfully Enter the West African Market

In 2024, we received an inquiry from the national oil company of a West African country. As the country’s largest refiner and fuel supplier, the company operates a refinery with a processing capacity of tens of thousands of barrels per day, along with a nationwide fuel storage and distribution network. With increasingly stringent local regulations on fuel quality, the company urgently needed to establish an internationally compliant oil testing laboratory to perform in-house quality control of gasoline, diesel, and lubricating greases, while also meeting the compliance requirements for export to neighboring countries.

Customer Pain Points

During multiple technical discussions with the customer’s team, we identified several core issues:

Lack of standard-compliant equipment: Their existing laboratory instruments were outdated, and most did not meet ASTM or GB standards, meaning their test data was not internationally recognized.

Inaccurate distillation results: Manual operation and unstable heating caused large variations in distillation range data for gasoline and diesel, leading to product misclassification.

No in-house grease testing capability: The customer had long relied on imported equipment for grease testing, which was costly and time-consuming. They urgently needed to independently measure cone penetration and shear stability.

Concerns about after-sales service: They had previously purchased equipment from other regions but received no local technical support, resulting in months of downtime. Therefore, they placed high importance on remote support and spare parts availability.

Our Solution: One-Stop Fully Automatic Instrument Package

Based on the customer’s needs, we recommended the following three core instruments:

DFYF-101Z Fully Automatic Distillation Tester (compliant with GB/T 6536 / ASTM D86) – Fully automatic distillation range determination for gasoline and diesel. 10.4-inch touch screen for one-key operation; automatically records initial boiling point (IBP), final boiling point (FBP), and distillate volume; data can be exported for paperless office.

DFYF-308 Cone Penetration Tester for Lubricating Grease and Petroleum Grease (compliant with GB/T 269 / ASTM D217) – Measures cone penetration of greases. Equipped with a full-size grease worker and a digital penetration display with 0.1 mm accuracy.

DFYF-315 Grease Shearing Tester (compliant with GB/T 269 / ASTM D217) – Double-action reciprocating shearing with automatic counter, used for evaluating the mechanical stability (shear stability) of greases.

All instruments were pre-set with bilingual (Chinese/English) interfaces, and we provided complete English technical documentation, standard operating procedures (SOPs), and 3Q validation protocols.

Technical Communication & Building Trust

During the two-month commercial and technical negotiation, our team:

Demonstrated instrument operation in detail via video conference and performed data comparison with the customer’s existing European equipment, proving that our instruments’ repeatability exceeded the customer’s requirements.

Provided our ISO 9001 certificate, CE certification (when applicable), and references from previous exports to other countries.

In response to the customer’s greatest concern – after-sales service – we adjusted our service terms and committed to providing free online installation guidance and operation training.

Logistics & Installation

Due to the complex customs clearance procedures at the customer’s port, we assisted them in selecting an experienced freight forwarder and prepared a full set of customs clearance documents in advance (including certificate of origin, commercial invoice, packing list, instrument manuals, CE certificates, etc.). The goods departed from Dalian Port and arrived safely at the customer’s laboratory after 45 days of sea and land transport.

Subsequently, our engineers completed unpacking, installation, commissioning, and on-site acceptance via three live video sessions. Four technicians from the customer’s laboratory participated throughout the process, and within two weeks they independently completed full testing of the first batches of gasoline, diesel, and grease samples.

Three months after the instruments were put into use, the customer sent a thank-you email stating:

The customer has now listed us as an approved supplier and plans to add purchases of petroleum products vapor pressure tester and oxidation stability tester in their second-phase project.
