– Simulating Shear Conditions for Accurate Mechanical Stability Evaluation
I. Applicable Standard & Application
Strictly conforms to SH/T 0122 (equivalent to ASTM D1831), specifically designed for determining the mechanical stability of lubricating greases in a roller test. By simulating the repeated shear action that grease undergoes in rolling bearings or gearboxes, this instrument evaluates changes in grease consistency, making it a critical tool for grease development, quality control, and batch stability verification.
Widely used in:
Formulation optimization and routine testing of grease manufacturers
Grease performance evaluation in petrochemical research institutes
Third-party testing laboratories for commissioned tests and standard compliance certification
Screening of grease suitability for bearing, automotive parts, and other industries

III. Professional Features
Precise Speed Control
Direct drive via a speed-regulated motor eliminates belt transmission losses, ensuring roller speed is strictly maintained within 165 ± 15 r/min to meet the standard's requirements for shear rate accuracy.
Air Bath Constant Temperature System
Equipped with an air bath heating unit (200 W), the chamber temperature can be stably controlled from ambient to 80°C, simulating the combined effect of thermal aging and shear on greases under real-world conditions, thereby improving test correlation.
Standard Roller Design
The roller is made of stainless steel, with dimensions of 990 × 180 mm and an accurate weight of 5 kg, fully complying with SH/T 0122 specifications for loading mass and contact area, ensuring consistent mechanical conditions for each test.
Compact & Reliable Operation
The instrument features a compact structure and attractive appearance. The roller rotates smoothly with low noise, suitable for long-term continuous operation and easy maintenance.
IV. Testing Principle (Brief)
A specified amount of grease sample is placed into the roller and rotated at the set temperature (ambient to 80 °C) and speed (165 ± 15 r/min) for a defined period (typically 2 hours). After the test, the cone penetration of the grease is measured, and the percentage change in penetration is calculated to evaluate mechanical stability. A smaller change indicates better resistance to shear softening.
