– Double-Action Reciprocating Shear for Accurate Mechanical Stability Evaluation
I. Applicable Standard & Application
Strictly designed and manufactured in accordance with GB/T 269 “Determination of cone penetration of lubricating grease and petroleum grease”. It is specifically used to evaluate the consistency change of lubricating grease under mechanical shearing, thereby judging its mechanical stability (i.e., resistance to shear softening). The instrument simulates the repeated shear action that grease undergoes in rolling or sliding components such as bearings and gearboxes. It is an essential testing tool for grease formulation screening, process optimization, and quality control.
Main applicable users:
R&D and quality control departments of grease manufacturers
Grease performance evaluation in petrochemical research institutes
Compliance testing in third-party laboratories
Grease qualification verification in bearing, automotive, metallurgical and other industries

III. Equipment Structure & Working Principle
DFYF-315 adopts a double-action reciprocating structure, consisting of the following core components:
Drive System: Single-phase capacitor-start motor, connected via coupling to a worm gear reducer with a transmission ratio of 25:1, delivering stable low-speed high torque output.
Shearing Actuation Mechanism: One pair of eccentric mechanisms is mounted on each of the two output shafts of the reducer, driving two grease workers simultaneously in reciprocating shear motion. The operating frequency is 60 strokes/min, fully complying with the shear rate specified in GB/T 269.
Counting & Control: Equipped with a preset counter allowing arbitrary setting of shear strokes (0–999,999). When the accumulated strokes reach the set value, the counter automatically triggers a relay to cut off motor power, stopping the test automatically without manual supervision.
Grease Worker: Standard-size grease worker with a perforated metal plate inside, repeatedly squeezing and shearing the grease sample to simulate actual service conditions.
Brief Working Principle:
After loading a specified amount of grease into the worker, start the instrument. The motor drives the eccentric mechanism via the reducer, causing the piston of the worker to reciprocate at 60 strokes/min, shearing the grease sample for a predefined number of strokes (typically 60, 1000, 10,000 strokes, etc.). After shearing, the grease is removed and its cone penetration is measured and compared with that of the original sample. The percentage change in penetration is calculated. A smaller change indicates better mechanical stability of the grease.

IV. Professional Features
Double-Action Reciprocating Design, Double Efficiency
The double-output-shaft reducer drives two grease workers simultaneously, allowing parallel or comparative tests to be performed side by side, improving testing efficiency and data comparability.
Precise Shearing Frequency
The combination of motor, reducer and eccentric mechanism ensures a stable reciprocating frequency of 60 strokes/min, unaffected by load fluctuations, meeting the strict shear rate requirements of the standard.
High-Capacity Preset Counter
The counting range is up to 999,999 strokes, covering tests from the conventional 60 strokes to extreme long-duration shearing (e.g., 100,000 strokes). The automatic stop function effectively saves manpower.
Robust & Easy Maintenance
The whole unit is built on a metal base. The reducer is a fully enclosed worm gear type, providing smooth, low-noise operation suitable for long-term continuous use. The grease worker is easy to disassemble and clean, facilitating sample changeover.
V. Test Procedure Outline
Sampling: Prepare approximately 250 g of grease sample in accordance with GB/T 269.
Shearing: Set the desired number of strokes (e.g., 60, 10,000) and start the instrument.
Measurement: After shearing, remove the grease and determine its cone penetration.
Evaluation: Calculate the difference or percentage change in penetration before and after shearing to determine the mechanical stability grade.
