The Lubricating Grease Dropping Point Tester is designed and manufactured in accordance with the Chinese national standard GB/T 4929 “Determination of Dropping Point of Grease” (equivalent to ASTM D566). This instrument is used to measure the dropping point of lubricating grease – the temperature at which the first drop of material falls from a grease cup under controlled heating conditions. The dropping point is a key quality indicator for grease, especially for high-temperature applications.

A small quantity of grease is placed into a standardized grease cup, which is then inserted into a test tube inside a glass bath. The bath is heated gradually while the temperature is monitored. The moment the grease softens and a drop falls from the cup is recorded as the dropping point. The tester fully complies with GB/T 4929, ensuring reliable and repeatable results.
Unlike conventional fixed‑power heaters, our tester uses a solid‑state voltage regulator. An adjustment knob allows continuous heating voltage control from 0 to 220V, and a built‑in voltmeter on the panel displays the actual voltage. This gives the operator precise command over heating power, enabling smooth temperature ramping as required by the standard.
The unit features a double glass cylinder structure. The inner cylinder holds the test tube and grease cup, while the outer cylinder acts as an insulating air jacket. This design provides excellent thermal insulation, reduces heat loss, and protects the operator from accidental contact with hot surfaces.
The entire instrument occupies little bench space. The controls are logically arranged, and the transparent glass walls allow clear observation of the grease sample during testing. No complex setup is required – even new users can operate it confidently after brief training.

The dropping point indicates the upper temperature limit at which a grease retains its consistency. A low dropping point means the grease will melt or leak out of bearings under high heat. For applications such as electric motors, oven conveyors, or automotive wheel bearings, a high dropping point is critical. By measuring this property, manufacturers can:
Ensure batch‑to‑batch consistency
Verify compliance with product specifications
Predict high‑temperature performance
Select the right grease for demanding applications
Grease manufacturing plants (quality control and R&D)
Petrochemical laboratories
Third‑party testing and certification bodies
Automotive and industrial bearing manufacturers
Maintenance departments in steel, cement, and paper mills
